Our bassist has a mid 90's MIM p-bass Squier series. What's the difference, if any? The regular Squier line was out at the time so what was the difference. Was it a sub-standard p-bass or something? Or maybe something in the serial no. would explain? He paid $150 used back in 2000. Is there anything special about them. I figure you guys would know.

Squire Pbasses are very different from Us made basses and other Squires.

A Mexi made mid 90's squire is a good bass but the pickups, tuners and bridge are certainly lower quality than what is used on an American Fender Pbass.

Among squires- the best Squires are the Japanese ones from the early 80s.
The 82 Squire Precision is just like an early 60's US precision bass and the necks and fretwork are superb. If you find one you will see what I am talking about.

Well here's the thing. It is a Fender, but the typical MIM style logo is black, and doesn't have the silver in the middle. It also has original Shcaller tuners, but says "Squier Series" on the headstock. It's a mid 90's wer're sure of, but what was the Squier Series, or what was the point at least?

It is very difficult to know what model you have without a picture. there are so many different Suire and Fender models form around the world that its hard to comment on what your have w/o more info.

Just know that it is a lesser quality mocel than a standard Mexican made Fender AFAIK. It could be the same as a Mexi Pbass but I am just guessing without seeing it.

As far as your question- What 's the point of Squire Series models: They are all at different price points and retailers have to sell their way from one line to the next until they qualify as full fledged Fender dealers AFAIK.

It's a 94, that's why!

It looks just like this, only a p-bass.

There are differences between the MIM Fenders and the MIM Fender Squier Series. Hardware, wood, electronics and price. Still a good decent bass. I liked these because they were light and played pretty good. They are worth $100 to $200 to me depending on condition.
