I just got an Am Std P-Bass today. I'm really excited!

Just a question, how's the nut on yours? Mine looks like a man-made ivory which looks rare, but not smooth like other nuts on most Fenders.

Let me know.

The nut on the Am Std is not a bad one, it's just not what I'm used to. I'm used to the cheap plastic ones that are really smooth, but may be more susceptible to damage and stuff like that.

BTW, I have an olympic white vintage modified Squier P-bass, and it's a bit yellowish too, which is good, I like that more. It looks vintage.

Enjoy your new bass!

I just recieved my new Amr Std precision and the color looks yellowish...Is this common?

Well my friend I had the same thoughts about the white color as you 2 years ago.
My ´62 re-issue is olympic white too. and it´s not clear white like arctic white It´s a bit creamy , and after two years since I own it it´s getting discolored as the finish ages. I got some yellowed finish at the upper and bottom corners of the bass.

I bought my '75 P new in May of '77.
It always looked a light, light yellow. I was told by a guitar buddy that has worked in guitar stores for years, that back in the day, the yellow varied on all of the new Oly White guitars.

Mine for sure has darkened. Under the guard, it still has the light -bright yellow, just like when I first bought the bass.

Over the years Olympic White has changed. The nitro O.W. on the old basses looks different from the polyester O.W. they are using today. It used to be a little whiter. Over the decades it has gotten progressively more yellow to simulate the natural aging or vintaging of the old O.W. axes.

It isn't just smoke at bar gigs that caused this color change but LIGHT. If you remove the pickguard from a 1962 O.W. P-bass you can see a huge difference in color. Lots of colors are photo-reactive and will change when exposed to light. Fender has tended to make the O.W. color a little more yellow over the years and paint batches can vary too.

I'm not sure how photo-reactive the poly finished O.W. color will be long term but it appears more stable.

Basically the more sun O.W. nitro gets exposed to the yellower it gets.

The Arctic White color is available on MIM basses. It is a dirty white, not a creamy white.

i think it also depends on the light, when my bass is in the sunlight it looks white, and in the picture below it looks white, but its artic white. but when its in my room at night and i turn on the light it looks yellowish, i prefer the yellowish look, because it makes it look aged, and gives it the vintage look :P

Nacho Nacho Man....

The reason it looks yellower in your room is because of incandescent light being a more yellow light. It is just reflecting a narrower spectrum of light.

O.W. actually has some blue in it. LOL. It is not a pure white like Arctic White. What happened was that the nitro clear coat on O.W. yellowed making it look vintage white. This yellowing gave rise to the vintage white or vintage cream color. Your O.W. bass has a yellowed clear coat on it to simulate this aging. So it would look more yellow than an Arctic White. O.W. is one of my favorite colors...along with blonde and candy apple red. Actually I thin the order should be CAR, blonde and O.W.

also ive read somewhere that after they paint the bodies of the mexican standard basses, they leave the arctic white ones out in the sun, which ages the whiute into a more yellowish shade :D
