I agree. I wish they would offer a maple neck.

I was checking the specs on MF site, while the Jazz highway one is noted as having a graphite-reinforced neck, there is no mention of graphite in the Precision. Does the Precision have the graphite reinforce rods, anyone know that for sure? I also note a change from the early versions with no Badass to the newer Badass bridges, any other changes betwixt those versions? thanks!

Yes, the P-bass has the graphite rods.
I have read that Highway 1's were satin lacquer acrylic over poly finish. The Highway One's have a nitro over poly.
Also have the "GreaseBucket" tone control, and I believe "upgraded" pick-ups.
I believe we have talked about them here on the forum somewhere before.

Anyone else?

Thanks, I thought the finish was straight lacquer from what I have read so far, that is not the case?

OK, just off the phone with Fender, the later than '06 models have the graphite reinforcement rods in the necks, also, the rep said there is a poly sealer that is then finished with lacquer. As Brotherdave indicated, the nitro (noted this on my Gibson J-1000 acoustic, the finish wearing off were I rest my arm at) will age and allow the wood to breath more, causing the moisture in the wood to escape. My question now would be, what effect would the poly sealer have on that, i.e., will the wood continue to breath and age with the poly sanding sealer on it...thanks!

Thank you Brotherdave for the info on the orgin of the Highway One basses (and guitars). I just aquired a Highway One Precision in 3 tone sunburst and I have to say the nitro finish really makes that finish stand out. As far as the sound goes well I could not agree with you more. The Highway One series is a really almost hidden gem in the Fender lineup. I count myself fortunate to have gotten one when I did and for the price I paid for it was almost a steal.

I got my H1 a couple of weeks ago, very nice! For the money, it's the best bet out there. No doubt the American Standard is probably going to be a better guitar, but the price diff would have been almost $500, too much coin for me to swallow at this time...

I guess we agree to disagree. The Highway One series is very hard to tell apart as far as the sound goes and when you compare the difference in price well..........You have an apples to oranges situation here if you have the money to spend and the American Standard works better for you then go for it however if you want a great sounding utility bass for almost half well then the Highway One is the way to go.

Highway 1's are definitely good especially with the current upgrades and necks and bridges and stuff but not all guys prefer Bad $@! bridges... they're great for gigging..

American Standards on the other hand have high mass vintage bridge, light tuners, modern pickups ... etc

I'd prefer Am St's more coz I ain't a fan of the BA bridges.. also for the Am Standard has more grind (low mids) to them, but I'd prefer the Vintage sounding pickups more though..

Well, I found a pickup that sort of has the best of both worlds. The Custom overwound 60's have the modern low mids and the vintage hi mids. I finally installed a pair on my American Standard jazz bass today, and I'd say it was an improvement across the board. It retianed most of the low mids from the stock pickups, but added a fantastic hi mid presence that gave it the classic growl as well as the grind. It also had less glass/brittle high, which I consider a plus. Just throwing it out there, heh.

Oh hell, I thought this was the jazz bass forum >.<

Well, I agree with you eyecandy, I much prefer vintage P bass pickups. They have more hi mid, and have a really great ballance between low and hi mids. Ignore my previous post, unless you're interested in Jazz basses. My bad.

As I stated in my last post this is an apples to oranges thing depending on what your gonna use the bass for. I'm just glad Fender is offering musicians such a wide variety of choices to suite all playing styles and budgets. Me I love my Highway One Precision Bass.

one thing to remember, when the H1's first came out, the price diff was around $150, now, for what ever reason, the price diff is about $500 for a better bass (at least better than the 1st gen H1's...)
