My P bass has a "flat spot" on the C-note (5th fret, G-string). The sustain is noticably shorter in this spot than any other fret position. I have no idea why. Every fender bass i have tried seems to be plagued by this as well. anybody else notice this?

ciao,
johnny.

What you refer to is known as a "Dead Spot". It is said to be a problem common with bolt-on neck basses. Some dead spots are more noticable on certain basses than others. Here is some material about it.

read the post. Not sure anyone knows for sure, but it's there. thing of it is that it's not just my p-bass, it's aubible in every p-bass i have ever tried. I would have thought that dead spot would have wandered about a bit but it doesn't seem to. just wondering if anybody came up with a cure.

ciao,
john.
