Hey guys,

There's a legendary punk rock group in Poland called "Dezerter". They've been performing since 1981.

The bass player that they have now uses a very unusual Fender P-Bass.

You can see it in this pic: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... _p_075.jpg

It has a white body, no pickguard, 2 P-Bass-style pickups that are slightly tilted and moved closer to the bridge, a different pot setup, the input jack is on the side of the body, and the body's edges are more rounded up than on the regular P-Bass. The neck is all black (not just a colored headstock) - it has black lacquer all over it, black tuners, even the nut is black. The straplocks also look different from other P-Basses.

So what is this? Some kind of a special limited edition? Custom Shop? User's modification (I doubt it personally)? I'm a Jazz Bass user, I never researched P-Basses and this one had me curious ever since I saw it for the first time, so I thought I'd ask.

In case anyone asks: the guitarist plays a luthier made Strat copy. Very nice guitar in my opinion.

That is neat. The pickup setup is the ELITE II dual P design right down to the toggles.
The body is definitely not a production model. Almost looks like a Fender Japan prototype. Can't say for sure what that is. The neck looks like the headstock is colored and they are doing some of that in Japan.

Yes, the headstock is colored, along with the whole neck.

My guess is that he asked fender to make this bass for him for a good sum of money, or he built it him self.

-but for some reason the pickup configuration looks familiar to me...???

:?

there's an interesting thread on dual p'up systems over on the TalkBass forum. It seems this is not that unusual to do...

Not sure if you have to join forum to see pictures...it's been so long since joined that forum that I can't remember if the pix showed up before I signed up.
