Might be an odd combination but...

Bass: two-way tie between Rocco Prestia and Pino Palladino
Guitar: Don Felder

Jaco, Victor Wooten, Tal Wilkenfeld already mentioned.

Also, Christian McBride (his trio is great, also toured with Dianna Krall) ... excellent example of an acoustic (double) bassist with a very modern approach. Worth the listen if you've mostly only heard acoustic bass in a traditional background role in classic jazz or in a rockabilly context.

Esperanza Spaulding -- major talent and she's already toured with a few of the greats. Also primarily acoustic bass, but has used a custom acoustic/electric to great effect.

Six string -- many -- so I'll just start with my first influence, Charlie Christian.

i have lots of fave bassists... depends on the music i am enjoying... 2 of my "most fave" would be Duck Dunn for his solid groove and a fellow Canuck Prakash John, who i'm sure no one has ever hear of (although he is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame).. no one lays down a funkier groove....

Guitarist... i dont really have a fave... lots of good players out there

I guess I'll have to mention Tom Hamilton since he has gotten no love and and as far as guitar goes I'll go with Warren Haynes

I'm in the "there's not just one" camp. Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Duff McKagan, in the bass chair.

Rory Gallagher is my favorite guitar player. Check him out on the "Irish Tour."

Guitar at this point in time would be a tie between Steve Vai and Jeff Beck.

On bass it would be nun-other than the great Jaco Pastorius (of whom I had the great luck of speaking to and I actually held the bass of doom in my hands.) That was the great coincidence of all time for me.
