hey gazzy. if you go into the precision section of products, you'll see that there is a model called an american precision deluxe. it is an active pickup system witha p/j pickup system. i've messed around with one at a music store but didn't want to spend that much money without getting opinions from people that have owned them to see if they really liked them or if i should just get a standard precision. thanks for responding to my question

I own one and love it.

The pickups are actually passive (I replaced the original P-style in mine with a passive Fender RI type), but the tone controls are active: you can cut or boost highs, mids and lows. It also has a blender pot, so you can choose any blend of the two pickups.

It's extremely versatile. Some players find the controls confusing, but once you get used to how they interact, you can dial in virtually any bass tone.

I can recommend it wholeheartedly.
