Hey,

I own a Jazz now and looking to get a Precision.

Has anybody played the new MIM standard and does it sound any better than the last one?

I am trying to save some bucks and I would be nice if I didn't have to get the American standard.

I am still considering getting a bass--and I'm wondering about Jazz versus Precision for playability, etc.

I've got a MIM P-bass from I believe '97, and I sure got lucky with it. I have played some MIMs that were not very good, but my P-Bass plays, feels, and sounds better than a lot of MIA's that I've played.

That being said, I have played some of the newer Squiers (just for kicks) and some of the 2008 Fender J's and P's. The biggest thing for bass buying is to try out the bass in person at a local shop - preferably not a Guitar Center, they haven't had very good setups in my experience. I like to play the bass acoustically first, and then plug it into a decent amp. If it feels and sounds good too, then you've got the right bass.

I do not believe that the new MIM's are in stores yet. I am excited to play them too. Another black and maple, and a LPB too.

That was an 07 American Series that I snagged new for $530.

Here's my third post for the Precision Bass--I also posted three notes for the Strat, if that is O.K., since I am still undecided. Meanwhile, good luck to everyone.

I have an '08 Am. Std. P-Bass 5 with the stock strings on it. I find that the tones on the D and G strings get too "trebly" as you proceed up the fretboard. I'm after more of an old school, punk kind of sound. Any suggestions on how to get there?

Have you tried a set of flatwounds on any of your basses.
IMO P-bass + flats = tonal bliss. I seem to always go to my p-bass with the flats when jamming with the guys or recording just because I sound better. JMO

Thanks for the tip.... And no, I haven't tried flats on any bass before. I'll try a set of flats on the P-bass and get back to ya. Any brand you'd recommend ???

I like the D'Addario Chromes and the Rotosound 77s. Also look into LaBella, and Thomastik-Infeld.

ZOD... You are truly "the man" !!! Several days ago, I took your advice and put a set of Flats on my 5 String P-Bass. D'Addario Chromes .45-.132. Man o man do they sound fabulous. Thanks again for the help.
