Well, I thought that I should start a new post, so tell me (and the world)what would be your Fender dream bass.

I'm into punk, and personally mine would be a black Fender P bass with a white racing stripe, a white pearloid pickguard, a 70's style neck with a rosewood fretboard, and Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound pickups. It might not be the best, but to me it is. lol 8)

Well, for punk I have my 78 P, which is pretty much about as good as it gets. For my roots rock band I use my 51RI P bass, and other then the discontinued CS 55 P Bass, I can't think of a better bass for that.

I'd think any dream bass I came up with would require getting in pretty deep with the custom shop, and alot of cash...so I'm pretty screwed.

I was thinking a cool combo would be a ash body slab P bass (like a 51-3 or Telebass), with a late 70's B width maple neck unbound with black blocks, like a Geddy Lee Jazz, but a P neck instead. String through body, with a BAIII, some Schaller strap locks, and TWO 70's Tele bass style Fender humbuckers. One in the bridge, one in the neck. Independent volume and tone. With a 3 way toggle for pick up switching. Tele Bass B/W/B guard, and in some awesome color like White Blonde.

How's that song go?..."If I was a rich man..."

My dream bass was to own a fender precision, it didnt matter what model it was as long as it was a fender precision.
Last year i bought my first ever fender at the grand age of 39, it was a MIM Electron blue precision and it was wonderful, felt like i'd won the lottery then GAS got the better of me and i saw a cij 57 reissue precision which i had to have but it meant i had to sell the MIM to put the money towards it, it was a very nice bass but i dont miss it as i now have my 57 reissue which is awesome.

On another note though i've always wanted a precision bass with the SAXON album cover CRUSADER painted on it but i wouldnt do it to a fender.
Maybe one day i will get it. Heres hoping :D

I am curious about the contest for the 2009 Kickoff. I play guitar a little, but I sing bass, so I thought maybe it's time to get into playing bass, since that's the line I often hear in music (along with lead guitar lines and vocal harmonies). My big questions: 1) can one enter the contest for the bass as well as the one for the Start? 2) Which is the preferred bass between Fender's Jazz and Precision basses?

I found it two summers ago, but the price was a bit beyond my wallet. It was a 72 fretless P-bass ... natural finish and maple neck (no lines), American made.

But beyond looks (the original owner had kept it in near mint condition) was the tone. To me, it had a certain depth and warmth that I haven't heard even in other P's (including my 98 fretless). Even better, the setup just happened to be perfect for me and the fingering was 100% natural for my short, fat fingers.

If I'd had my 98 with me, I might have tried for a trade to get the cash down to what I had available. Unfortunately, I was visiting a friend in Rochester NY and my 98 was at home in LA, 2,700 miles away

Any nice sounding P-bass is fine with me. I love the Black and Maple look.

I'd really just like a white American precision bass. Nothing fancy.

As far as Fender basses go, I've played Jazz basses, Precision basses, a Jazz bass with a P-Bass neck and a Mustang bass. I never was totally happy with any of them. Then last year I bought a R.I. '51 Precision and that was it. That's my dream Fender. The weight, the balance, the feel of the neck and that one single pickup's interaction with the tone control just about covers all the bass sounds I want.

It gets close with the tone control turned all the way down, but it just can't quite get to the stand-up bass sound. So, I use a Hofner for that sound but that's another story.

Of all my instruments, if I could only have one of the basses the '51 Precision would be the one.

I have guitars, but I haven't had a bass in a while.

I'd like to have a Precision Bass model with 3 pickups, a humbucker at the bridge, a single coil at the neck, and a piezo below the bridge. I like these necks, and a redwood fingerboard would be good enough, properly dressed. I like ash bodies, and I like the natural finish with thin lacquer.

Not too tough a request, I hope.
