I took the neck and strings off my bass to paint the headstock and am now having a hell of a time geting the d & g strings to tune again. I tryed to do stuff like measure and judge the radius, measure strings from the body and so on. Any advice? How high should my strings be from the body at the bridge (I mainly play with a pick). A squire p bass neck is a 9.5 radius right? HELP!

No help huh? Guess I'll have to pay the $25 each to have them set up.

Am I correct in my understanding you took the neck off?
If so, I suspect there is a problem related to the neck angle
or tension. You can get setup information from the the
manual, the PDF is on line, but I suspect you should take
it in and get everything adjusted back to factory specifications.
Good luck.

I cant understand why you cant tune the strings again.
I have a precision copy i like to mess around with, resprays, etc. and i've had the neck of it 3 times in the last year to respray it and ive never had any problem tuning the strings back up, you say its a squire, my squire bass is spot on and the precision copy i mess around i paid 40 pounds for it and that was brand new, now thats what i would call a piece of crap but i love it. your squire is a damn sight better than my precision copy.

IMO take it to a luthier and have it fixed correctly.

I'd pay a professional to do it right.

The more I've thought about it, I prolly did mess up the neck angle. I'll take it in. I just wanted to hear from a few other people. Ya know knowledge in numbers and such.
