Stretcho I'm with you on this - Granted I may be swayed by the fact that I've bought one of the new ones.

Seriously tho, how can anyone think the old model could be better? Whilst there is nothing 'wrong' with the old model, I think Fender have improved on it and got it just right this time, based on the facts below.

The new one has:

Better (correct) body wood, correct colour to match the 80's maiden heyday bass, correct scratchplate, vintage radius tinted neck, vintage nut width, Rotosound SH77's....

Mine turned up at the store yesterday - I gotta tell ya this is one very well put together Bass, it played very well straight out of the box, I am one happy man.

If I had one criticism - At the price it is, I would have liked to have seen it come with a Hard Case, not a gig bag (albeit a nice gig bag)

I just saw the new Steve Harris Signature P-bass. I'm not really a fan of heavy metal, but I respect Steve Harris and I love P-basses.

I have a Squier Vintage Modified P-bass (great bass), and I'm want to get a higher end bass in the future, so I'm on the look out. Since I have a P-bass, I had my heart set on getting a American Standard J-bass. I really like the fact that it has the graphite reinforced neck.

Now that I saw the Steve Harris Bass, I'm considering on getting this instead, although it doesn't come with the hard shell cass, and the graphite reinforced bar.

PLS POST A REVIEW TO ANY OF YOU WHO HAS ONE! Thanks.

They cost about $1200. It would be a lot more if they did a reasonable facsimilie of the white bass with the two tone piping. The blue sparkle bass is more iconic anyway since that's the color it was throughout Maiden's high point. All their best albums came out during that period. This one makes more sense.

Some things I don't understand:

What's a little moon thing? Eddie? If so, you're probably looking for a different bass.

Also, some say the first version was better.
How?

The old one was made of basswood. Steve's isn't made of basswood. Cheap Asian instruments (and overpriced Bongos) are made of basswood.

The old one was a stock Fender color with a red pickguard. I've been an Iron Maiden fan for a long time and I've never seen Steve Harris play anything that looked like that. How is that more of a signature instrument than this new one? Is it because it's (almost) the colors of his favorite soccer team that no one outside of London, 99.9% of whom aren't bass players, cares about? Is it the moon thingy that's also not on his bass?

The only thing I take issue with on the new one is the spaghetti logo on what's supposed to be a '70s bass, but that's not too big a deal. I like the C neck it's on better than a period correct B.

this moon thing its on the headstock Eddie or not

Hopefully it's all good Tommy. Sometimes when you're reading something that is in text, you kinda misinterpret what the posters' intentions were. Then you get kinda irritated and wanna get your 2 cents in back at them. I have done it, we all have. You did a nice thing apologizing and trying to smooth things over.
I really have no knowledge on the Steve Harris bass other than he played a P-bass and was a great bassist.

Sorry but it looks nothing like steve harris bass and the price is a disgrace for a $@! fender.
I love $@! fenders, i own one myself but this takes the p**s.
If their gonna do a steve harris sig bass, then why dont they do the white precision with the west ham crest which is the main bass he uses .
Makes me f**king laugh all these so called artist sig basses which look f**k all like the actual bass.
Sorry for the outburst people but i have a mad night every now and again and tonight is that night. ( its all true though)
