:? Just bought a new American Standard Precision bass last month, maple board in Olympic white. What a really nice bass. My on frustration/concern was one of the strap button screws was stripped (kept on turning) and required to be doweled and re drilled? I do not know about you but I am having a hard time accepting this on a brand new instrument. Perhaps it is not all that uncommon and I am being too picky. I did not have to pay for it as it was a warranty issue. Not sure exactly what would have caused this on a new instrument. Any comments/thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi friend. I understand your frustration as it is a new instrument. Personally, I have ALWAYS had to treat the strap buttons on every instrument I've ever owned. The easiest and most reliable way to do this:

Get some wood glue and a wooden toothpick.

1. Unscrew strap buttons.

2. squirt a little wood glue into the hole and use the toothpick to push it down deep into it.

3. stick the toothpick all the way down into the hole and break it off even with the body of the guitar.

4. screw in the strap button again.

Viola....it isn't going anywhere for awhile. If it loosens again repeat this process.

It won't affect the value of your instrument or cause any permanent damage and you'll be able to use the original screw and button each time you do it.

I agree with the above comment, this will happen from time to time on any instrument, including mine.

It is a simple fix, then you are back to instrument you dig.

Thanks for the replies everyone. That makes me feel better. It would not have bothered me as much if I bought it used or owned it for awhile, but surprised for a new bass, especially an American Precision.

You're exactly right, it's a brand new bass. Sometimes things do happen. Was it brand new in the box still or a floor model?

It was on the floor, but not for very long.

...cuz you snatched it up.
People just have no respect for the basses in a store. I see it all the time. Banging other basses when you get one down, leaning it unsupported on an amp, dropping it, removing/stealing anything they can.
