my bass has always been kind of a mystery to me. I've owned it for about 6-7 years and I have yet to see a fender precision bass built to the same specs. It's called a "precision bass active", it's a fender but in tiny letters on the tip of the headstock it say ????"by squire"???? It's korean made with serial number CN208537. The neck definitely a J-bass neck. It has a P-bass PUP and a J-bass bridge PUP. In the back there is a small plastic cover plate that says "adjustable preamp" and has a small hole in it where the level can be adjusted with a phillips head screwdriver. when removed the plate reveals a 9 volt battery. It has the two standard volume knobs of a P-bass, one stacked knob, and a passive/active toggle switch with a red indicator light. The stacked volume/tone? only works when the switch is toggled to active. Currently it only works in the passive as there is a small part that has gone M.I.A. I've never seen another fender quite like this one.... not to say I've been on a hunt for it.... but any information would be nice whether you know of this bass or how I may come to know more. Thank you my fellow bassketeers.

It's a Squier made in 1992.

Korean Squiers
CN/VN: C = Cor-Tek (Cort), V = Saehan(Sunghan), S was already taken by Samick so Saehan(Sunghan) used V instead (Saehan(Sunghan) made the Vester guitars), N = Nineties (1990s), the first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

For example

"CN5" = made by Cor-Tek (Cort) in 1995.
"VN5" = made by Saehan(Sunghan) in 1995.
KC/KV: KC (Korean Cor-Tek (Cort)) and KV (Korean Saehan(Sunghan)), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year.

I got 2 Fender Precision: 10 years ago, I bought a used one I got for 200$ only. I put a fretless neck on it and a P/J BassLine active pickups set (Seymour Duncan) and since, I don't regret it at all cause it's an amazing instrument. My other one is the new Aerodyne I bought a year ago as a second bass but, finally, this is such a great bass... it became the one I use the most!
