It depends on how long you've played for. I would go Fender no matter what, but a lot of people like gradually building up to a Fender. Your basically gonna blow about 100 dollars less on a squire, but in a few months you'll end up wanting a Fender. Fender Japanese made models are basically the New mexican models. Being 2nd best quality to American made Fenders, Squires are made primarily in Indonesia, so good luck not getting a lemon with them.

I believe that the best thing that you can do is to try them both and see which one is more suitable for you. :D

jimy, you should buy what ever plys well and sounds god to you. try them all and don't be concered with a name. i have a squire p bass, mim jazz fretless,aerodyne jazzbass and a 68' made in america jazz. i bought each one after playing many and decided that each was the best for what i needed it for. play grasshopper,play.

the squier name to me is a lesser quality bass. My suggestion to you is try them all on the same bass rig. when I bought I p bass I tried the MIM, MIA and they both sounded the same. Even tho both bass needed to be set up to my likeing I bought the MIM version because of price.

go with a fender, i just recently switched from a squier j-bass to a fender j-bass and the difference is huge, it sounds and feals much better than a squier.
