I would like to try (for the first time) a set of flatwound strings on my 2008 American Standard Precison 4 string. I think I'd like to continue to install string through body. Is a special (long) string length required for string through body? I.e. if I bought a set of Ernie Ball Group III flats - would they be long enough to install string through body? How can I find out which strings are compatible with my bass :?: Thanks!

I just put some EB 2806 flats on my string through p bass. They are plenty long.

I actually cut part of the E and A strings off...plenty of length on the 2806's.

Thanks again DJ. The 2806's (Group III) are the exact same set I chose to try.

:) ghs makes a set #3050 long scale that will work well. i've used these strings for 20 some odd years, having switched from roto sounds and have no complaints with the ghs's at all. i use the on my jazz basses too.
