I wish...That is Andy Hess. Up until last year he replaced Allen Woody(R.I.P) in Gov't Mule. I guess he left to do other things...

Cannot play any other kind of bass when it comes to Punk rock. Plus its good for a bunch of other styles. Always good to keep a Jazz and a Precision around.

well i use to be a gibson man, but thank god i have seen the light. it all started when i played a p bass of a frind, wow how sweet it is. due to the loss of my gibson grabber i was without. i saved and when i had enough money for what ever i wanted, i went shopping. there it was american standard p bass, i played it it was love at first flite. so thats my story, however i do have a jazz bass as well, love em both.

Why I play a Precision....?

very simple. (KISS)

one pickup.
one volume.
one tone.

and that is why I play a precision.

I had a Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass, which was pretty good. I'm now selling that bass and get a 2008 American Standard P-bass for a life long companion =)

Before I decided to sell my Squier, I was going to get an Am Standard J- bass, but I thought I need a really good P-bass since I really love P-basses. So now, I'm going to get a P-bass first and then later on, maybe get a J-bass.

Now the big question is, should I get a maple or rosewood fingerboard???

If it's a P, it's gotta have maple. A friend who has always played rosewood Jazz basses has borrowed my Classic '50s P for a Dallas gig...he called me to tell me how much he loves the maple neck.

IMO If you are gonna get a sunburst bass, then it has got to be rosewood. That is such a classic and awesome combination.

I have two sunburst Precisions, one with rosewood (59 reissue) and one maple (57 reissue). But the 57 is a tobacco (two tone) sunburst. I love the look of both.

Edit: Here's a pic of the 57 (not mine but the same bass at TPB) for a reference:

Yeah it's a classic look but not a common one. I get more compliments on mine than any of my other basses.

The P Bass was an easy one when I started the local dealer didn't have any Jazz basses to buy yet they where made but he just didn't have any yet . I admit I do own a few now but I always seem to come back to the P Bass I also have G & L and Musicman basses but a nice light P BASS is the favorite they just plain work no batteries, stay in tune, use for any style, don't buzz-hum under stage lights, basically they just don't get you into trouble and sound men love them no guess work when you DI at a show, that's a big plus .

I heard a bassist from another band playing one and it just sounded so much better than any other basses i heard. They are simple but powerful.
