I was wondering . . . does anyone know what size fretwire was used on the original '62 P-Bass?

Thanks!

I am not 100% positive but I see size 6230 thrown around alot for older Fenders.

I fired off the same question to the likes of Fender, Warmoth and George Gruhn. Warmoth's reply was, while fretwire size at that time wasn't nearly as consistent as what we have today and Fender basically used whatever came in on the truck, 6230 is the closest to what they used. Also, Fender confirmed that 6230 is indeed closest to what was used. Gruhn hasn't replied as of yet, but it's kind of a moot point now.

On a side note . . . I have a friend who has a custom made Strat with a compound radius fretboard and the 6230 fretwire for exceptionally low action, and it is one sweet axe. That bad boy plays like butter.
