I was wondering if anybody knew if any of the early 80's P-bass specials came without a painted matching headstock? I had one in the 80's and mine came with it. I am interested in one for sale, but it doesnt have the painted matching headstock but does have the right logo or what seems to be the right logo. Thanks in advance for your answers and help. Hello pastorkris,
I own a '82 P'special in candy apple red and it got a matching headstock finish.
But the photo on my owner's manual shows a P'special with a natual headstock finish. Its the same like the one at:

http://www.fender.com/support/manuals/p ... l_1981.pdf

So I guess, that the first series were manufactured with natural headstock finishes.
