The American Deluxe has active electronics and another pickup. I've played them, they're modern sounding but for you that's good. You'll enjoy it I'm sure.

You'll have better tonal variance with the actives. The best part, if you're not a fan of active pups, you can still manipulate the bass to sound like your MIM anyways via tonal adjustment and amp sound manipulation. Congrats on the purchase.

If you leave the active eq. flat on the deluxe, it will have a similar sound as with the MIM, though the U.S. model is a step up in regards to all the components (wood, hardware & electronics)...This could only help the tonal quality.

For round-wounds:

The Fender Super Bass are nice and the DR Hi Beams or DR Marcus Miller Signature set (not just for the slap bass style...great all-round clear string).....all of these have a round core: = more overtones.
