I am pretty sure that all '06 guitars and basses have the little circle thingy on the back of the headstock commemorating the 60th anniversary. There was a "special" model 60th anniversary bass with the anniversary logo on the front of the headstock, special neckplate, and a few other special options.

The pictures in the link you posted looks like a Highway One P-bass due to the 70's logo and what appears to be a Bad $@! bridge. I could be wrong. Do you have the bass?

Well, it looks original to me ! the s# starts with Z6 which it is a 2006 model made in USA . It is a fine looking bass . I have the 50th Annyversary jazz bass 5 . Made in Corona in 1996 , with flamed maple top and back , three tone sunburst , gold hardware and vintage electronics . Special comemorative neck plate with the s# number .Only 500 of those were made and I was lucky to get the number 12 of 500 .

Yes I just bought a NOS FSR 2006 Fiesta Red USA Stratocaster FSR with MATCHING HEADSTOCK, gold spaghetti logo decal and Custom Shop pickups. On the back of the headstock is this same little medallion insert. Hope my kid doesn't stumble across this post or his new axe in my office closet as it is his birthday present!

I also had a 2006 Highway One Jazz for a few months until the neck went wacky on me and I ditched it on eBay at a huge loss. It had the little medallion on the back side of the headstock too.

I agree that from what I can see this eBay item has every hallmark of being a genuine USA Highway One model. I can not see the back of the instrument and I can not be sure of the texture of the body finish, but if the neck plate is smooth (unengraved) and if the finish is satin poly (looks dull instead of shiny when compared to nitro basses) then I'd say 100% Highway One. It has the right decal, tuner machine heads, fretboard, inlay dots and from what I can see it has the 2nd generation Fender bridge for bridge-through top-load stringing instead of body through. I enlarged the photo a bit and can't tell for sure but I think it is top-loading based on where the strings seem to be going down there.

There were sunburst Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Series USA Precision Basses. This isn't one of them though and should not be represented as such. The limiteds have a diamond inlaid "60th Anniversary" logo banner design on the front of the headstock peghead, the S-1 tone-switching circuit, graphite reinforced neck, a body-through bridge set up, a commemorative neckplate and arrived in a platinum colored 60th Anniversary Fender case with the 60th Anniversary logo on the interior lid that looked SUPER cool. These limited edition basses had really nice nitro finishes. The Anniversary Limited Editions sold online for about $1,150 US. They are truly worth it.

The MIM 60th Anniversary P-Basses were blizard pearl and came in a gig bag instead of a case, but are in my view just as good as the US Highway Ones. I really liked the two I tried out. They were very cool too.

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure this eBay item is a Highway One, which sold in 2006 for about 700 US Dollars brand new and the mega online dealers were asking about 650 US Dollars as I recall. According to the moneycentral.msn exchange rate calculator the high bidder on this auction will pay the equivalent of 775.63 US Dollars including the shipping. That is a tad more than it is worth on the US resale market but you didn't get hurt really bad. This bass should have been listed by the seller as a 2006 Highway One. While made in the USA during the 60th anniversary year and while a pretty nice old-style standard P-bass, this item is not a 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Precision Bass.

The Highway One series of basses underwent very significant and quite effective upgrades commencing with the 2007 model year and the price went up by about $150 on both models. There has since been another $50 price increase bringing the Highway One P or J-Bass rock bottom price to about $850 US new. For the extra money you get a nitro finish, a better neck and more modern bridge. Money well spent. The early Highway One basses might become collectible since they were made for such a short time, but so many of them were made that it will take several decades and I won't be around to see it.

Regards to all,
Dave
