Would love to send you one..but I am too broke right now to even make the prototype. So for know i just draw out schematics and slowing buying what I need (tools and parts) until I can have enough stuff to begin the project.

And correct, The settings diagram for the jag will be stored in the computer..I was more concerned about being at a gig and losing it. Then when the band is ready to start i will be up there messing with knobs and switches instead of being ready to play. But I will say that jag really had a sound to it..I am not usually that impressed..especially this was an unknown original band..and it didn't hurt that the girl could actually play..but you don't get tone like that from every bass. It was distinctive and cut through...kinda like a jazz/percision but different.

Well all the luck to you on that project, I would definetly buy a finished product. So you think the Jag is a user-friendly bass that could be used to make some amazing tunes huh? I was impressed with what I heard but it wasn't in concert, just some goofing around, so I can't say I got the full effect of it.

It's as user friendly as any bass..just has more knobs and switches to give you more tonal choices. I like.

But you need to learn what the switches do so that takes a little patience ,no biggie.

Alrighty..I am jealous.

What I suggest is a have a pro set it up for you. Now I don't know where you are purchasing the bass or if they set it up for free but from experience of spending a few hours a week trying basses out at the guitar center here in LA..they are not set up.

I find the action is a bit high for my liking..at least on the basses they have out for demo. Once the instument is pro set up..as long as you don't change the gauge of the strings..it should only require minor truss rod adjustment in the case of extreme temp changes. And in some cases may not need any adjustment at all.

Since I set my action low as possible I may get some buzzing now and then. If it does not come through the amp..I live with it. If it does.or I get "dead" spots...I loosen the truss rod (lefty loosey, righty tighty) 1/4 turn or so and that does the trick. Then if I notice the action is a bit higher..I tighten it back 1/4 turn at a time..until it is back where I like.

But these suggestions are only if you feel the action is too high..not everyone minds higher action..it's a personal preference thing. And use caution with the truss rod if you are not experienced with doing adjustment yourself, I broke one on an old vintage SG bass from over tightening (it sounded horrible anyway) rendering it pretty much unplayable since those style basses did not have a bolt on neck.

Good luck with it and post pics if possible.

My impressions of the Jag Bass is that it sounds a lot like an active Jazz and looks like 1965! They can be very bright sounding when you crank the treble and then you can turn around quickly to get a sound out of them that is almost P-bass like. This is one of the most versatile basses Fender has ever made and a dang fine bass. The matching headstock is a feature I'd like to see on more modern Fenders. Especially the USA models.

The only concerns for me when compared to Fender's conventional models are:
1. Too many things to fiddle with! I like one volume and one tone control. Yeah I like a P-bass!
2. Long term parts availability. All those switches and pots will eventually need maintenance. 25 years from now will I be able to find parts? I hope so!

The two thumb-wheel pots will be difficult if not downright impossible to diagram because there is no reference point as with a rotary pot. On P-bass rotary pots I use the set screw holes as a reference point so I know exactly where my tone and volume is set by feel.

The neck is a Jazz profile which isn't my bag either. But the neck is WAY WAY well done! BRAVO on the Japanese Fender Bass necks. If you like a Jazz neck you'll love this one. It is right on righteous! I've sworn off Jazz basses forever, but this bass is the one Jazz profile neck I'd be willing to get used to again because of the versatility. This is a KILLER studio bass.

For the money it is a steal. I still may get one, but I'm in a first generation P-bass kick for about the last 5 years. Besides the roots stuff my band plays doesn't require anything this versatile. But it sure is PRETTY! And I'd look like a genius because I could work all those controls. LOL.

I love God and I would buy a Jag in a second. But then again I am an experienced player.

You know those switches give you different sounds right. Jag's not my cup of tea, but I've gotten my sound playing it. Too much to adjust for my taste, but I wouldn't say never.
