Welcome to the forum. I don't play bass (very well) but you will meet some very smart bass players on this site! Good luck! :)

Hello and welcome.

Good luck with the jag bass. I recently went into GC and played one of those for an hour.

I had seen a band recently and a girl bass player had the red one with the red headstock. It sounded so good that I ran to the store the next day to try one out.

Love the looks also but took me the whole hour to figure out all the settings. LOL.

I will get one eventually..have too many basses right now and actually need to sell off a few.

Yeah I know the Jag is certainly nice sounding. I must admit I've never really tried it out myself yet lol so I hope I can decipher the settings.

You will, it just takes time. I had a little experience with jags since our guitarist had a 62 reissue guitar at one time..I had somewhat of an idea what all the switches do..but you really need to use your ear..and have a good memory..lol

I found you can get nice punchy tones with some settings..and "rounder" fendery (if that means anything to you) tones with other settings. Then blend anywhere in between.

But I want one just for the looks alone...The jags have that timeless vintage look that nothing else can touch..IMO at least.

I know it. The look of it is what attracted me to it in the first place. When I heard it in action I had no choice but to decide to get it :D

Oh I forgot to mention. The girl I saw with the jag had duct tape on he upper switches. I imagine she did this (like Curt Cobain used to do with his Jag guitar) so once you get the setting you want you don't inadvertantly change it..since it may take another week to find the "sweet spot".

Well that may be exaggerating a bit..but I can understand the function of the tape. I really want one of those !!!!!

I think I'll take your advice on that one. Ha, I wouldn't want to spend hours trying to figure out the spot I need just to screw it up playing lol.

Another option I thought about was to draw out diagrams of optional settings if you require differnt ones for different songs..or amps..or live vs. recording. my only concern is I will lose the diagrams..I will make a dozen copies and tape one in the case..one on the back of the jag..that might work.

Generally I prefer simple stuff..the less confusion the better, I am currently building my own "signature series" if you will bass. It will have 3 pickups..one volume for each pickup for ultimite blend control and versitility, one main volume..and one tone control. Also thought of the possibitliy of stereo jacks (2 jacks)..well not really true stereo but one seperate for the neck pup to go to a seperate amp set up for massive bottom (the sheehan sig yamaha has a similar set up)..scallop a few of the upper frets under the D and G string for more dig on the bends up there (don't use it much but it's a cool gimmic)..and possibly a bass whammy which I won't use much..but also just has that "cool" factor. Mabye use to dive harmonics ending fills with a little overdrive. Just a thought but I will do it one day.

But a Jag will be in my arsenal one day as well..it's a must have.

The diagrams sound like a pretty good idea, you could store them on a computer couldn't you? And that bass idea sounds pretty awesome. SEND ME ONE :D
