Can anyone advise as how I could find out how old or when my bass was made and its' worth in $? I should also say that I (depending on how you look at it) made a choice/mistake and had the origional pick-up's replaced with active EMG's many years ago; but I DO still have the p/u's and could restore it as it was when I bought it back in 1986 or 7. Guess I could try local Guitar Center, but thought u other playerz may have an idea/thought.? Tks....57pbass :?

Howdy, I have an '83/'57 reissue. The best way to tell the year of manufacture is to take the neck off and look at the date stamped on the end. The serial numbers of the RIs didn't go exactly in chronological order , although they can give you somewhat of a ballpark. I know one of the good folks at the "Fender Forum" http://fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&m ... _number=21

has put together a chart of the reissue serial numbers by year, if you want to ask over there. Once you get the date, determining value becomes easier. And I would tactfully suggest that GC is not the best place to get an estimate of the worth of any used instrument.

      Good luck!

:D Hey Man and Thank You! I'm not ready to take off the neck though. Guess I'll settle for as close to the date as I can get. I bought mine back in '86 or early '87 and it's a reissue too. A tobacco sunburst w/ gold adonized pickguard. Not sure how long it sat in the music store window, just that I saw it on a Sunday night and was in asking questions and buying it the next day. Also unsure if I'm gonna "resore" it as it once was with all origional stuff, p/up's actually the only thing I changed; but I'm considering it though. I'll check out the site and the folks at the F.Forum you mentioned, and hopefully, just for curiousity, try to find out a date. THANKS AGAIN!.......Steve
