Well, you're what I call a "lifer." I think that was originally used as military term for someone who has a long career in the military. Imagine, you could have done that, too. You could have been a general by now. :P

It looks like that's the way I am for Fender Basses, for the rest of my life anyway.

You know, probably in some parallel universe/reality, that could have happened, but that's the kind of crap you think about, 2 AM, blasted out of your mind, and staring up at the stars, and pondering the universe. :P

I was looking at the Buck Moon last night, on the 50 year July 16, 1969 launch of Apollo 11. Reflecting on that as just one of the really cool things that was going on in 1969. The 60's in general.

Watching on TV, live Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon. Michael Collins orbiting above the moon. The BALLS it took to actually attempt such a dangerous endeavor. Until that time, I thought the greatest thing I heard on TV was Ed Sullivan's THE BEATLES!, was really something, But then when Neil Armstrong stated so calmly, and eloquently, THE EAGLE HAS LANDED, that's a moment in time I hope I will always remember.

Yeah, the 60's were a turbulent time, to say the least. A lot happened there in a span of 10 years, when you think about it, even potential nuclear Armageddon, with the Cuban Missile Crisis to start things off with. That was even before The Beatles even broke big, or any other cultural things that happened. Do you remember any of that? Florida isn't too far away from Cuba, that's for sure.

Yeah, I was living in Miramar, South Broward County at the time. Miramar is right on the county line, just north of what is now called Miami-Dade county, instead of just plan Dade County. Plus there were the air-raid drills in school. The cold war lingered on. We got to watch the Vietnam war on TV at the dinner hour, with the new satellite live transmissions. Good old Walter Cronkite, And The CBS Evening News. A preview of things to come. I guess I should have taken notes. Good thing I wasn't graded for that.

I imagine that must have been something to watch that on the news, then wind up being in that. I suppose that lingered with everyone around that age, though. I suppose that war really had an impact on a lot of what happened in the 60's, or a reaction to it, at least. Who knows how anything would have turned out if that never happened, that there wasn't a war going on there?

Then again, there's always some crap going on somewhere with somebody, so if it wasn't there, it would have been probably somewhere else. You know, we're still involved in the War In Afghanistan, and that's been going on since 2001. I think that's the longest one in US military history, from what I've read. 18 years. Someone could have been born when that started and now be of age to go over there now. I remember when I was 18, I had to register for Selective Service, and that was when the first Gulf War broke out. Luckily, that really didn't amount to much, but I suppose led to the eventual destabilization of the area, and all of the fun stuff that's being going on since then.

I remember in my senior year in high school, turning 18, and doing the sign up thing at the local draft board. The world has always been a dangerous place, since two cavemen squared off about something.

Wasn't there some sort of lottery system in place for that? I used to work with this guy who was of age during that, and said something about that, but his number wasn't called up, so he didn't wind up going.

Yeah, there was a lottery system. Basically it went by the year that a guy has his 18th BD in 1970. Mine was Feb. 21. The lower numbers sucked. The drawing was on number for each day. Feb. 21st drew the number 15. "So put down your books, and pickup a gun, we're gonna' have a hole lot of fun."
