You have to scream towards the end of it, while the guitarist slides across the stage perfectly timed. :P That song will always remind me of that video, or I suppose you'd call it a film sequence. Did you work for them when that was filmed?

It's hard to say. There were always cameras taping the shows. That move wasn't a once in a life time stage move for him either. And honestly, I wasn't watching too much on the stage theatrics going on.

That's true, they did film quite a few shows, from what I've seen. Oddly enough, I've never listened to a Who bootleg, since they've put out live albums, with "Live At Leeds" being probably the ultimate one, at least for bassists, so you can pan the stereo to hear the bass side exclusively. I forget whether that was left or right, since it's been ages since I've listened to it.

Yeah, that was a perfect move for him. Probably the right place at the right time to be filmed and executed. That's something you'd be lucky to repeat like that.

I take it you hung around the back, unless you had to go out there for some reason?

That was really my position to watch the overall conditions of the equipment. Direct the guys on my crew to do what needed to be done at the time, to keep the show going without any noticeable glitches. besides, I still have a souvenir Gibson SG guitar scar on my chin, from doing what needed to be done quickly. I did do some actions on stage when needed. I was, and still am a firm believer, Roadies are there, but not to be seen as part of the stage show.
I did get a rare "thanks man", after the show was over. My replay, "you're welcome, great show!"

Well, you were the backbone that kept everything going when it needed to be done, especially if you're dealing with something on a large scale. Did you ever have to deal with any pyrotechnics, or special effects stuff, or did they even really mess with that back then? Personally, I think pyrotechnics is a bad idea, unless it's in some open arena, or something like that, and even then it can be dangerous. I remember when I first moved up here, there was that fire in that club in this state started from some screw up with pyrotechnics, and something like 100 people died. I think it was called The Station night club, but I'm not 100% sure, unless I look it up.

What about the lighting, or was that a separate group that dealt with that?

That does make sense that they would be. You can't be 100 places at once, but sometimes you might find yourself in that position, though.

The pressures just seemed to mount up overall, and I had enough that I wanted to deal with.

I imagine that you did, especially if you're also in charge of things, then there's that whole responsibility. Not only with the job itself, but with the people working on it, as well.

It did get crazy at times.
