On my 51RI I use Fender 9050ml's (flatwounds) in my roots rock band. Great old school thump.

On my 78 Precision in my punk band I use Dean Markley Skullbusters. They're the Jerry Only sig strings and they are freakin' gnarly.

On my Frankenstien Fender P bass, which does double duty for either band in our practice space I run Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's. They seem to be very versatile and can get a nice old school round wound growl, and with the tone knob turned up they can get a little edge.

Since I bought my used P-bass in 1982 (built in 1977) I only have used D'Addario Half Rounds 045-065-080-100. They have a nice smooth feel but still with enough brightness in sound. And they're not so aggressive to fingers and fingerboard. Furthermore, they last long, very long!

I've changed over all my basses to Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. I really like the feel, although (obviously) others don't, and the sound is better than other kinds I have tried.

A friend of mine also uses the Thomastik Flats on his Fender basses. He's very fond of them but I haven't yet tried them, so I can't say anything about them. Maybe in 10 years, when my D'Addario Half Rounds have worn out?...

PS @ lpdeluxe
Isn't the spelling "bajar"? (not "barjar")

Ouch! Now corrected to "barajar." If non-Spanish literate folks would like a translation, let me know.

One thing I like about the TIs is that they seem to last years -- not that I ever change strings that often on a bass. I've used GHS Brite Flats, LaBella Deep Talkin' tape wounds, and Minnie Moore, as they say, and the TIs really have the punch and feel I like.

So the TIs also last a very long time, that sounds good. I like this feature a lot so I never use round wounds. On my fretless bass I use the D'Addario Chromes flats. Their sound comes a bit near to the double bass which is my main instrument.
¡hasta la vista, señor!

PS
I could find the translation of your signature, a nice saying!
In Germany one says: "Mit Geduld und Spucke" (with patience and spit)

Haha. I'm sure it's a universal sentiment.

For those of us who are not multilingual, my signature translates as

"I say: 'patience, and shuffle the cards.'"

I always loved Playing on the Prosteels. 50-105. They always seemed to play nicely and gave you an awesome metallic sound directly into the amp.

I've used Ernie Balls Super Slinky and Regular Slinky, and they're both good.

But now I'm using DR Fatbeams (Marcus Miller Signature) and I really like them a lot. Excellent tone, bright, but it has a good bottom end as well. The sustain is awesome, and it's not rough on the finger or frets. I think I'll use them for quite a while. I'm really happy with it.

DR Nickel Lo-Riders .055 - .105. Strung on my MIM P with a Badass II and brass nut. Strings were nice and tight feeling, but were so easy to play and the sound was phenomenal.

I'm getting it strung up now with a set of DR High Beam Flats, and I'm super excited.
