Hello to all, I am new to the forum.

I have a question about my 1983 P-Bass Special.

I am trying to find out the history of these basses.Like how many have been made, what are the major differences between this one and the standard issue MDL's.All I can tell in the brass hardware, active pickups and headstock are different. What type of wood is the body is made of and what they might be worth today?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Brother Bassman, Regarding your P-Bass Special. I have an '82 that I bought new and I wouldn't trade it for any other Bass.
Rather than repeat it here go to Harmony Central's Bass Guitar Reviews and search Precision Special, You'll have to weed through some of the other "Specials" but the info is there.
I have no idea how they are worth. There is a real pretty red one on e-bay right now that had bid up to 1100.00 this AM.
I've been trying to find what the body is made of too as it weighs about 3 times as much as any other P-Bass I've ever played. I love it when a 6-stringer goes to pick it up and the next time I see them they are wearing a hernia belt :D
Mine is off white with the brass/gold hardware and is near mint except for the 2 times it was kicked of it's stand during gigs, The first time was by a guy at a party who walked between my amp (Sunn Coliseium 300) and my Bass. Good thing I new and liked the guy. Not a scratch on it except for a very tiny dent on the neck. The last time the drummer in the last band I played in kicked it off the stand as we were coming off stage after finishing a set. I just kept walking to give me time to cool down. Came back and it had a very tiny dent in the neck, You can only see it if you hold it up to light just right, These suckers are bullet proof but I digress.
Hope this helps. As the famous philosopher said.
Keep on rockin' inna free whirl.

Thanks for the addtional info. I will checkout Harmony Central.

I am glad to hear that the bass we have seems to be rare.We have the same color, off white with brass hardware and a maple neck.I did put EMG pickups in it.Mine has a few scratch's...but pretty much excellent condition, it stays in it's case while I am not playing it just to be on the safe side. You are right it does weight a ton compared to other basses. I really would love to know the type of wood Fender used to build it.

Thanks again for the help,
Anthony :D

Hey antrocco, Glad to be of a little assistance. By the weight the body may be Hard Maple but that's just a guess.
Enjoy the holiday.
