I now own two Fender instruments, one a '62 Strat, the latest what appears to be a '73 P Bass, both with rosewood fretboards, and both with skunk stripes. My Strat was confirmed original about ten years ago, with a stamped "birthdate" of 8 Apr, 62. Now for my question. Did the skunk stripe happen with rosewood boards in the 70s? If someone knowledgeable in this area can answer, thanks.

Skunk stripes on rosewood necks didn't surface until 1973.

Chromeface, thanks for your response. It took a few days to clean this bass up, as I received it in a filthy condition.
I finally eased the neck off, which shows numbers for a birthdate of March 74. There's not only a skunk stripe, but what looks like a botched up truss rod "repair". It plays and sounds like a Precision should... amazing. So, no matter the neck, I'm keeping this baby.
