hi there bass fellows
i am looking to upgrade my bass, its a squier VM p bass, i love the feel and tone, but i think the bridge could do better, bassically i want more sustain and if possible thicker tone
will the gotoh 201 be a worthy upgrade?, also if a change bridge will it be nesesary that i readjust the neck? like a lot? something that would require more than 1/4 of turn? i really hate messing with the neck and a trustable luthier here = very rare/none
also i am a fan of superlow action, will i be able to achieve this with the gotoh 201?
any tip or advice related to bridge will be great :D

I wouldn't do anything with the bridge until your neck/trussrod/luthier issue gets resolved. I don't know anything about the Gotoh bridge(s), but the Leo Quan's product, I have 2 different ones. I would recommend it to those BadAss bridge(s). If and only if your neck/truss rod issue(s) have been resolved, that's like getting new tires when your allignment is not fixed, not going to do any good.

As low as it can be with the fat .110 E string. I like med heavy gauge. On my '87 it's even lower since I used light gauge on that baby. As far as it can go low, hog wash, you can adjust it the way you want it. Just make sure to do the intonation afterwards.

funny thing is i can go lower with thicker strings.. i always though like this thicker the string = more tension = less eliptical movement = less need for relief = lower action = me happy and it works aparently, well atleast it does for me, how is that you get lower action with thiner strings?

Set the bridge low, set the pup low. I've not have issues. I tuned the basses i have to D, cut string short. No loose/flappy strings for me.

what i meant is how is that you get lower action with thin strings rather than with thick strins and i got the opposite, lower action with thicker strings

Your mixing up string position/tuning and action. Yes thicker strings would get the string closer to the f/board, doesn't mean you have low action.

Edit to add: by your logix ErexE, if you have a high action on a bass, buying bigger gauge strings made it lower action w/o any adjustment.

you kind of confuse me now
but my point was that if you get thicker strings you could lower the saddles a bit more and put the neck with less relief and still dont get buzz, while with thin strings you'll need a bit more of relief

I think we're confusing each other, and I don't know how else to explain it. Yes bigger gauge will lower the string compared to thinner gauge, but string placement on different gauge strings does not lower the action automatically. If you have small gauge strings, low action, then you replace the strings with heavy gauge strings, you don't always get low action would it, the strings now are touching the fretboard. I don't know how to explain it well enough I guess.

well me neither, lets just forget about this for a while and go back to the original topic, the bridge, i am going to buy gotoh since BAII looks to big to me and i dont think i could get enoung punch out of it and the sound may be too bright, and my bass is already very bright sounding
but do you think the gotoh 201 would add some thicknes to the tone? or atleast dont add any more bright

Ok, sounds good to me. I can't tell you cuz I've never had personal experience with the Gotoh 201. You should try a bass with one 1st before or go to talkbass.com and ask questions about it.

I think I had a Gotoh bridge on a Jazz Bass before . Check the photo and see if it is a Gotoh bridge . It is a great bridge , it gave more sustain and clearer notes . Also I had another 69 Jazz with a Badass bridge and also was great .
