I recently got my 2014 Am.Std Precision out of it's case, for the first time in over a year as I had started playing a Jazz style bass (a nod to my late Father). Firstly it looked good resting in it's case & with all the case candy still unused from when I bought it back in 2015.
On getting the bass out of the case the neck felt really nice in my hand and the, light weight of the bass itself was a welcome relief after the heavier Jazz style bass. After a quick tune up I have Dunlop flats 45-105 on it, it was then put through my Fender Rumble 200 combo.
The Precision sized nut width took a little getting used to again after a year off but I can't fault how good it felt playing it again, and I'd forgotten that and how well made these necks are.
As stated the bass feels light and balanced and always has, and before I put it through my amp it sounded really nice acoustically. The CS 60's pickups for me are the real winner for me they sound so good all round I love the sound of them, with the EQ on my amp at noon and my tone at around 50% I finally understand why the Precision means so much to many bassists.
After the last couple of days playing it I can't see myself putting it back in it's case the original reasons why I picked the Am.Std Precision, are still as relevant now as they were when I started my search for my "Last Bass". I also can't see myself now saving for another Precision as much as I like the Road Worn & the RW Sig, this/my Am.Std Precision still ticks all my boxes.
And that can only be a good thing :D .

Good friends are always great to get back to. Next time you may want to get it out of the case a little sooner. Image

Sounds good. 8) I remember when you first got that bass, and that amp, as well. I have a set of Dunlop flats in the lighter 40/100 gauge on my Ibanez Talman short scale bass, and I've found them to be some of the nicest strings I've used. Very flexible with minimal to no break in time.

My American Professional Precision has quickly become my #1 and stays out all the time. The others are rotated through every week a day at a time for each bass.

American Standard Precision or Jazz can hardly be beat. I have traded many times in the last 10 years, and have my collection down to two basses now, Jazz MIJ with CS60's pups and FSR Am Precision with EMG pups. Both are passive and that has always been my choice of pups..
I like having several basses, but with only two they will both get playing time. I've taken both to gigs and swapped them out depending on the song. That's been really fun.

I liked the 2015 Am Std Precision but traded for a Lakland DJ5. After six months I decided to stick with four strings and traded for the 2017 Am Pro Jazz. The Pro has nice features, you can adjust the two volume knobs any way you like with no loss of volume. It gets a variety of tones with no hum when the vol knobs are not set the same. I sold it because it was worth more than the others and I needed money to buy a car, so I'm down to two basses now and will probably stay that way. But you can never tell when GAS will strike again.

FYI, there's a page on Facebook called Bass Gear For Sale. It's nation wide and I've had good luck there trading and selling.

Thank you Gentlemen I'd forgotten how much I like this forum :D It was your Precision Mr.Nylon that decided what colour/neck I wanted. And Linnin your passion for all things Fender both here & on TB, prompted me yo get my Am,Std back out and played again :) .
Paul it's been over 3 and a half years since I posted here when I got the bass & amp, where has the time gone  . And like you I prefer the Dunlop flatwounds especially in the 45-105 gauge, they feel nice under your fingers,
62p-bass your right about the Am.Std range I think Fender got so many things right with it, I recently tried the Am.Pro Precision but I was more than happy with my Am.Std .

I'm glad you liked my choice for the Am. Std. Fender Maple fretboards are my favorite on a Fender Bass. My Jazz has a Maple board that feels so good to me.

The maple necks on the Am.Std P & J feel so smooth and comfortable to me, so much so I haven't tried a rosewood board Am.Std.

I may have seen a pic of your Precision when you bought it but I've forgotten what it looks like.
Any chance you could share another photo? We like photos. :D

When I got it out of it's case back in August I haven't played anything else since. Hard to believe I bought this bass unseen & untried, didn't even try one in a guitar shop first. I just picked the colour & neck type and asked the, shop were I ordered it from to get me a nice one and set it up for me. They found me the right one :D .
