With the unfortunate passing of brotherdave, I have been trying to reach affprod. As some of you may know Steve (affprod) put together a complete collection of Fender basses from 1951 to 2000 including several one-of-a-kind prototypes. He had this collection professionally photographed for publication. He and brotherdave were reportedly working on the history and descriptions of each bass. This was to be the absolute most comprehensive history & photographic journal ever produced on the Fender bass. So if anyone has any information to share, please do. If Steve is still alive, he'd be about 70. Thank You.

I was able to contact affprod through a TalkBass message, so he is alive & well. Beyond that I have nothing to report other than he said he might pop into the Fender Forums, but nothing else.

I haven't seen him around here in ages. I remember the whole book thing that was in the works. It's good to hear that he's doing alright.

I really wish he would. He has a wealth of knowledge to go along with his collection. I am also under the impression that every bass has been inspected and appraised by George Grhun. Just the photos and a comprehensive abstract drawn from Steve's personal knowledge and information from the written apraisals would be plenty of good information. It wouldn't have to be an exhaustive history in it's own right. It's a shame Tom Wheeler recently passed away. His wealth of Fender knowledge and well established writing ability were second to none. He would have been the perfect author.

Yeah, I heard about that. I've read quite a few things written by him.
