I bought a new American Professional P-Bass a couple of weeks ago and am about to put new strings on it. However, I noticed that the saddle for the G string is moved all the way forward. It appears to be intonated correctly right now, but it concerns me a bit that there isn't any additional room to shorten the string if necessary.

Should I be concerned about this? I can't image that the bridge was placed in the wrong spot during production...

Photo is a must .
Check neck bow ; wrong neck bow may do issue with intonation / or saddle

First you need to upload your pics to the internet. From a great forum member ; Jmattis

Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb, flickr or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.

The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' and ending in '.jpg'.

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

Sometimes you may need to cut the spring behind the saddle , a shorter spring may help

Hey ! Where is my picutre ?

Buy a new set of your favorite electric bass guitar strings, and go see your friendly professional luthier for a complete set up. Tell him your concerns. Be sure to ask for the action to be set at the nut, check frets for level & level any that need it. He'll instal the strings and adjust: truss rod; action at the bridge, and intonation. Also ask for the pickups to be adjusted for the 'sweet spot' for tone. Then you'll be GOLD!
