I bought this P bass a few weeks ago from Guitar Center in New Orleans. It's a really nice bass and plays great. It feels similar to the 63 Precision I once owned.
I was told by the manager that it was a Fender Special Run, but he didn't know why it was a special run, or what bass/year it may copy.
It is a 60th Anniversary, made in USA, with a matte black body, white leather pickguard, passive EMG pups, BAII bridge, and pearl capped knurled chrome knobs.
There are so many oddball things about this bass that I think several were added after market. I have since put a White Pearloid guard on it. Didn't care for the leather one.
The serial # is Z6249598. Here are some pics to help.

Please help shed some light on this. Thanks

I have found out some info on this bass from reading other recent posts in the P bass forum.
The post about Honey Blonde Or Beige: Highway One basses on this page has several photos that give me hints.

One of the unusual things about my bass is the larger Precision Bass waterslide on the headstock. All of these pics of Highway One basses have that larger, 60's style waterslide. They also have the BAII bridge. So these are both clues that my bass is a Hwy One model.

The Hwy One colors in those pics are beige or yellowish, so I don't think the matte black finish is original. The leather guard and pearl capped knobs have to be aftermarket too, and most likely the EMG pups as well.

After scouring most of the posts on the first page (over 35 posts), I found a link to the serial # search in Fender Product Registration. My 2006 Precision is a USA made Highway One and is exactly as shown in my pics, minus the leather pickguard. So I know now that it is original except for the pg.

Nice talkin to you fellas again!
