That was on an American model? You'd think you wouldn't see that, especially at those price points. Sure, maybe on a Squier, but you would expect that going in, anyway.

I don't know how they got away with that one, but I brought it back to SA. I haven't messed with Squier for a bit, but when I look at some at SA, they look good. My MIM Sea Foam Pearl PJ is up there with a MIA Fender. At least I think so anyway.

You know, I'm wondering if the maple fretboard basses just turn out better? It seems to me that they have a tendency to be less problematic, as far as the necks go. At least they don't shrink with the weather changes, it seems.

I think the Maple boards may be the better of the two, since Maple boards are usually coated. Rosewood does dry out, so I wipe any Rosewood boards down with a silicone type of polishing cloth.

You know, if I ever get another bass, I think I'm going to try for one with a maple board on it, if I can. There's a few around that look interesting, but not a hell of a lot. It seems the rosewood boards, or the replacement variants, are more common.

I like Maple boards. It may not be a bad idea to have a Maple. Other than the Mustang PJ I had, and the Gibson now, Maple has been the board of choice.

It would also have to factor in what is available for the price at that time. If there is a choice at the time for a maple board bass, then I'd take it over another kind. I do have one bass that has a maple board, which is the Peavey Zodiac, which I've been really interesting in getting into action. I want to try flats on it, and I'll probably have to look into that grounding hum issue.

That sounds like that would be a nice bass to get going again.

Yeah, I'd like to finally use that bass to it's full potential. It's on the heavy side, but that's what wide straps are for, if I decide to gig with it. It has a good neck feel to it. It's not as thin as a Jazz, but not wide like a Precision, either. I guess somewhere in the middle, or closer to the Jazz, actually.

That does sound like it's just the right bass to play live with.

Yeah, it certainly has the P and J pickup combination covered. I remember it did have a really beefy sound to it, that you feel in the body. I forget what the wood is in it, but it seems to have some resonance to it. I'm going to see if I can find any info online about it, maybe Peavey has some archives.

Just out of interest, it would be ok to know the body wood.

According to a couple of product listing archive pages from Musician's Friend and Guitar Center, it appears to be made of alder.

Very nice. Alder is a fine wood for bass / guitar bodies.

It does have a nice sound to it. Maybe that weight contributes to it.
