Hello fellow Fender guys :)

I'm deciding whether to buy Precision 1978 to restore it to original condition.

It has original body, neck, bridge, neckplate and tuners.

The rest: pickups, pots and pickguard were replaced and the body was refinished.

Can anybody tell me if it is worth the restoration? Are there any caviats I should be aware of?

The main problem I see are pickups and refinish...

At what price do you think I could be able to get proper time period pickups?

I'd probably strip the finish to make it natural and get proper nitro..

Many thanks!

Worth restoration ?
For you ( for fun ) or to sell a high price like ( half ? ) orignal ask ?
Half original ; because paint is not original = what it the value on market ?

To sell and make money ;
IMO ;
1-you have to find great deal on parts and it take time in research and need to be very lucky.
2-You have to do all the work yourself.
3-Paint job may need to see a pro $$$

I've heard from serious sources that the electrical instrument market is not doing well.
Young people are not interested in guitars like us. They are on Facebook or video games not in learning to play bass.

Currently it is about 60% price of all original piece.

I'm player so I want it for myself (to save some money by DIY work).. I have Jazz but I'm looking for Vintage P-bass to have it available.

But I need to assess the financial aspect also.. If it is good value. (If I compare it to new P-bass these cost pretty much the same, but I doubt that they sound as good as 78 MIA P-bass)..

Or do you thing it is better to pay 100% for all-original and have it as collector's item also? (these things go up constantly as I see past few years)..

1- I don't know it is a matter of taste and...money
2- Past years yes......Not sure it will be same in next years but I'm not an expert
