Anyone out there who can measure their early '70's ('73) G-string longer bridge screw and tell me what the correct length should be? Any idea who sells these? Are they supposed to be nickel? Want to put my '73 back to original "look" and can't find a "correct" bridge. Thanks

Dis you mean intonation screw ? 12 / $8.99

It is 6/32 X 1 1/2 inches long screw ; Look at Lowe's Hardware, on stanless steel screw drawer
Or saddles height screws ?

Complete reissue bridge $39,99

stratele52 is correct. A '73 would have come with those vintage parts, specifically part# 001-5610-049 if you want JUST the screws, and part# 005-5257-000 if you are replacing the entire bridge. Screws were not different lengths on those or any other Fender bridges. If yours has a screw of a different length, it's been replaced. Good luck with your restoration, be sure to post a photo or 2 when you get it finished!

Thank you for the reply. I followed the link and might order those saddle height screws in nickel. All I can find at my local hardware is stainless. I have to ask you to do a little research on the longer intonation screw, though. Every "original" Precision bass I look at from about '70-'74 has the longer intonation screw. Here's some quotes from other forums: " The only thing about bridges from that time is that there was the bridge with a long G-string adjustment screw used from 69-73, and to add to the fun Fender issued the bridge without the extra long G-string screw starting in 72 for both P and J Basses and used that bridge on up to 82." "The bridge has the long g screw, so a reissue bridge or later 70's bridge isn't exactly "correct"". "As for the G-string long screw saddle, Fender also started issuing both P and J Basses without the long screw for the G-string saddle by late 72, so the experts claim, so it's a matter of what was picked out of n.o.s. parts mixed with the new stuff in the bin I guess, but again the question would be best answered if anyone has a 72-73 P or J Bass with the shorter G-string screw to prove it to be so." "From a super clean 1972 Precision Bass, this bridge would be correct for any Fender Precision or Jazz bass from late 1969 through about 1975 (although the long screw was no longer used after about late 1973). SS screw finish are so close I would use if screw head are same as Fender original.

My mistake, I understood you to be referring to the bridge mounting screws. As far as the intonation screws, that is outside the sphere of my expertise. Sorry for the confusion.

IMO we should call it bolt not screw.

Bolt need a nut, screw don't need a nut and bridge saddles are the nut.

Bridge screws are wood screw to hold the bridge assembly on the body

Well, after doing some quick research, I found nothing as far as an old part # or anything referring to the longer screws. Saw nothing available used on eBay either.

But...I did come across a nickel bass bridge that touts having longer screws for the D and G strings. Now, how much longer they do not say, they simply display a photo, and yes the screws are longer. Here's a link to the bridge saddles I found. You may want to contact the company and ask the exact size of the longer saddle screws.

The size of the original long screws was 6-32 x 1-3/4". This is what to ask for.
The standard nowadays is 6-32 x 1-1/2", so the long screws are 1/4" longer.

No, they are screws for sure. Bolts would need a wrench to adjust or install. These are installed/adjusted with a screwdriver. I understand what you are saying, though.

Thanks for all the info. I've seen 3 different versions of '70's bridge intonation screws/bolts. One is where all 4 intonation screws/bolts are the same length (1 1/2"), one where the E and A intonation screws/bolts are 1 1/2"lg and the D and G look to be 1 3/4"lg, and a third version where the E, A, D intonation screws/bolts look like 1 1/2"lg and the G is so long that it sticks out past the edge of the bridge plate. I am going to guess that it is 2"lg.
I'm asking if someone with an original '70's bass, with the 3rd type of bridge (1 longer G string saddle intonation screw/bolt), to measure that G string saddle intonation screw/bolt and verify for me that it is 2" long. I can't find any of these for sale anywhere, so maybe I will have some made.

Give the links where you see different version,

Some people may cut screw because they could hurt their hand ?

If you are unable to find screws specifically made for the bass, there is always a hardware store where that size is definitely available. For example, this place online has them, though they won't look exactly like the originals, which is what you are trying to achieve, right?

The bigger challenge, though, will be finding the right spring size for the longer screw. I suppose you could always try a spring off of a more modern bridge like the Omega. They might be longer.
