I recently bought the Pure Vintage '58 Pickup and had it installed in my 50's P Bass. I am just wondering why the poles stick out much further under the A string? They even do on the pic of the item the Fender website.

Is that how they were made in the 50's? Does that mean that the A string would sound comparatively louder?

The poles on the pickup in my American Standard P Bass are all pretty much the same height.

Any explanations and historical/technical info would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes, that is the way Fender made them. Ostensibly for better balance of A string volume.
