Last week I bought a cheapo bitsa Precision, a '57 RI CIJ lookalike which turned into a big mystery for me. The body has a beautiful trans white finish with nice ash grain visible underneath. It came with heavily modified neck pocket because one of the prevoius owners got it routed for another neck, then the seller modified it back to fit the original neck. At least that's what he told me. The neck overall looks very similar to a real '57 RI CIJ, except for it's way too shallow, Fender logo is misplaced, CIJ logo and heel date stamp look strange, serial number is barely visible. So here's my question: Is there any chance it could be a real CIJ neck?

I've never heard of anybody counterfeiting MIJ Fender instruments.

You've been very lucky. There's even fake Squiers, including JV/E serial Squiers that are from later years.
The top (actually bottom) I've met was an acoustic fake Fender in a 100$ price class...

I'm not an expert on basses identification, but to me that stretched truss rod end cap and date stamp whisper "Korea" and "Squier". Just an opinion, and I may very well be wrong.
