Hi,

Just bought what was advertised as a 1976 LH P Bass modded for Jazz pup, owner said he got it in 1980 from a guy who bought it in 1976.

1) I pulled the neck, and was wondering because the neck stamping don't seem to indicate exactly what I read online. It seems like 01 10 but it's a Fretted Maple neck. It then read 351 clearly and the next number if that is one seems like possibly a 5 since no other letter has a shape like its top left. But that would indicate a 1971? Yet the neck is stamped R. BUSH which I'm reading is like 74/75 so, IDK. Nothing in these numbers make sense to the body SN nor the stamp nor the fretting.

2) The Fender Logo doesn't have the (R) to it.

The bass parts look authentic, just wondering if they COULD have been put together for the same customer, or are they parted from 2 separate basses, neck modded, body modded?

That said, it plays fantastic, superb variety of tones, nice sustain. All parts are original (case too) except the
*pups (15 years old fender pups)
*wiring & pots/cap
*bridge (now a Badass II)

Other Mods:
*a Jazz pup put into a routed chamber
*electronic compartment extra routing for added knob.

I paid 1.5k for it, but just wanted to make sure it's not "false advertisement" being parted, not original.
I technically have 5 days to return it, but in terms of being a "player" I definitely really like it.

I'll let the pics speak:

In terms of factory documentation, I've heard that leftie instruments are somewhat odd in that dates between bodies and necks may not always jive with one another. It might be more accurate to rely on the EIA codes stamped on the back of each pot, assuming that they are original to the instrument.

I have a left handed Precision that I ordered in the fall of 1975 that arrived in the spring of 1976. My neck has a single red magic marker stripe on the butt end next to the truss rod screw. That's it. No date. No Name. No stamps of any kind. My Fender logo/decal on the headstock is a simple black 'Fender' outlined in gold with the R in a circle. Left handed Precisions and Jazz basses shared the same decal. The BadAssII was a very popular upgrade. I put one on mine, and it really is better than the stock bent plate bridge. T-Bone Wolk made the hot rod Precision famous on the Saturday Night Live band when he irreversibly modified his 1964 Precision to put in a DiMarzio Jazz p'up at the bridge. From about 1985 on the P/J hot rod became a craze. I put double P's in mine.
