Hi. First I would like to apologise me because of my bad english (it's not my mother language)
I'm a intermediate bassist and I'm looking for my second bass because the bass that I have now is not the best (it's a Ibanez GSR 190) so i'm thinking to buy the "new" Squier Precision Vintage modified (the olympic white with the black pickguard). Of course I will put the seymour duncan spb 3 pickups and the leo quan Badass II bridge. My question is, shall I buy this bass and modified it or shall I buy a Fender precision standard that cost a little more than the squier whit all the modifications?

IMO you gotta spend some quality time with each instrument to get a feel for it. And coming from that Ibby to a P-bass, there will be a difference in feel for the neck width. Alot of people like those Vintage Modified basses. PowerJazzBass has one with a BadAss I believe. Also look in the used market for maybe a nice MIA.

Not sure where you're from - your English is fine btw - so any money value(s) we talked about are based on US$ here. I have a VM Jazz Bass with BadAss II bridge. The cheapest Fender (MIM) are about $479, add labor to install the bridge ($0 if you put on yourself), add BadAss II - $55 - 95, you're looking at over $500. My VM was $269 (bought @ local store with hagling), add $55 for the BadAss II and labor - total was under $400, I didn't add the strings cuz I've had the strings from a string purchase I did a couple of years a go. The VM has Duncan designed pups, they're not genuine Duncans tho. The sound good, full, rounded, jazzy, like the American Standard or Deluxe Jazz. So for the kind of money you're looking for, it's a bang for the buck (great value). You can get an MIM Fender, but you'll spend more. If money is not an issue, you decide what to get, if it is an issue, Squier Vintage Modified Series is the bang of the buck in the bass world right now. Good luck. :)

Good for you, but that wasn't the question that was asked by the OP was it? Not everyone has the financial ability to spend over a grand on a musical instrument, I think that's why he's asking the 2 choices.

I'd say go for the vintage modified and if later you decide to go pro you can keep the VM and get the American bass .

i personally think the vintage modifieds are made better than MIM. the squier fretless jaco bass is better made than the fretless MIM jazz i had. MIA are expensive, but its worth stretching a bit for a MIJ as they are so well made, you wont regret it and long term its best because you wont have to buy another bass for a while, unless you want to...
