Hello friends... First: my english is not perfect, so sorry for this.

Hope for help and information about my new, in perfect condition bought, Fender Aerodyne Classic Precision Special in natural. All original.

I want more information about that guitar. I know that this must be a non export bass, and it was only build for 2-3 years in Japan. That is all i know.

I played many Fender basses over the years and never be happy, so i resell every one. Christmas around i found this one on ebay and this one was new for me. So i read what i had found and bought this one.

This is in many ways the best Fender ( and one of the best ever) i played. It sounds great, and the neck and position on my body are perfect. I am really happy after more than 15years with a Fender bass. To be honest... I had already given up the hope to find a Fender bass for me.

But you guys know it... We all want to know so much as possible about our guitars.

Anyone has more information about this beauty???

The only thing I found out about it, so far, was this article in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Aerodyne_Jazz_Bass

Maybe someone else around here has some more detailed knowledge about it.

You are correct. The Aerodyne P-Bass was a very short lived model while its sister, the Aerodyne Jazz, soldiered on well past the Aerodyne Precision's early demise. The Precision version was a beautiful well crafted and well finished bass (loved the body binding, extreme body radius and painted headstock.) Both the Aerodyne models were well crafted and finished but the Precision version retained more traditional P-Bass cosmetics like the pickguard and chrome flat top Fender vintage knobs than the Aerodyne Jazz retained from the traditional Jazz Bass. The Aerodyne Precision had a P/J pickup arrangement with traditional Vol/Vol/Tone controls with a lower bout mounted jack and a traditional P-Bass type pickguard. The neck is specified as having a 1.5" width at the nut (Jazz Bass width), 7.25" vintage radius, 20 frets and a rosewood fretboard. They were made in three colors being natural (transparent), crimson red transparent and blue (opaque) with all three having a matching headstock treatment. A very striking instrument in any of the three colors that just screamed UNIQUE!

The fact there are fewer of them than other models does give them potential to gain value but also the potential to become a forgotten model, like the Zone or JP90, neither of which have yet caught on with collectors. It is too soon to tell which way the wind will blow on the Aerodyne P-Bass long term, say in 20 or 30 more years. It was fairly pricey compared to MIM Standards in the first place.

The basswood bodied Japanese Fender basses like this generally yield good tone and are lighter than alder. But this instrument's body having so much sculpting applied it almost looks like an aircraft wing when you look at the body from strap button up the neck. This sculpting made it even lighter than other Fender Japan basswood Precision basses and one of the lightest Precision logoed Fenders of any origin unless you count the P-Bass Lyte. \

The general rule about Fender Japan electronics being third rate and hardware second rate seems to hold true in this case. There is nothing special about the electronics or hardware to set it apart from other Fender Japan models. It got the stock hardware used on all the Fender Japan basses. Just one thing I recall particularly odd was there was so much radius on the top that the bridge had to be recessed into the body a tad to compensate which makes a bridge swap to any other bridge a terrible idea and not recommended at all. This probably would not be apparent until you removed the bridge. Leave the stock bridge on for sure.
