Narrow tall fretwire, V-Mod split-coil humbucker featuring a blend of different AlNiCo magnets, a comfortable '63 neck shape, fluted tuners and two new cool finishes (Antique Olive, Sonic Grey) figure among the features of this new series replacing the American Standards.

Available in 4 and 5-string versions, with the choice of rosewood or maple fingerboard.

So I guess that's what is going to replace the American Standard, it seems. Pretty cool bass. 8)

It looks pretty much the same, except for colors, the pups, frets, and $100. more. It appears the neck is thicker on a Precision, and thinner on the Jazz as well.

You going to check them out when they're available?

I would just to see how the new style frets feel. To purchase, no.

a chunkier pneck?!?!
Pbasses are already so huge in body and neck you have to be 6'5" to play them and have all the notes fall under your fingers comfortable like. (I heard the P was designed around a 6"-something human, Freddie somebodyorother, others can chime in with the facts on this).

I am 5'8" and feel like I have a diving board strapped to me, and my left hand, after playing my Pbass for 12 years, now just doesn't like 34" scale anymore so much. Even a Jazz neck. But my ears loooooooooooove the Pbass sound!!!

Well, at least they kept a fretless in production. At least for the time being.

The P-Bass was designed by Papa Leo with the help of Freddie Tavares.

Only the Jazz is offered in a fretless version on this series.

You are such a wimp! Here's a photo of Tal Wilkenfeld playing her 1969 Precision. Most likely with with the stock 1 3/4" nut width and 7 1/4" neck radius. Tal isn't tall (something like 5 1/2 feet) and look at her petite hands. No problem for her at all!

Finally got the chance yesterday (24th) to see and try one in my local guitar shop. Having never played or held a real '63 P, I couldn't tell if the neck felt better or different from the Am.Std it replaced :? .
Soundwise it was really nice going through a Rumble 25 :D, fit & finish was very good on the one I tried. Only bad point it was Black & Maple I wish I'd picked that colour, when I ordered mine it did look good 8) .

Hey Shawn, did you like the feel of the neck? Same 1 5/8" nut and 9 1/2" neck radius as your American Standard. Also did the new narrow-tall frets make a big difference in playing action?

The only way for me to audition a lefty without buying it is to travel to Larry Hartke's Bass Lounge in NYC or go to Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Both damned expensive options. If I just go ahead and order one, I'll keep it. :D
