Both Precision and Jazz. $300 off the American Standard Jaguar! $500 off an American Standard HH Dimension IV. All at Musician's Friend, but the sale is industry wide. My guess is that American Standards will cease to exist once current supply is exhausted. :(

I believe you're right. I'm taking advantage of the $200. off on this Fretless Jazz.

You think they are getting rid of the American Standards?

No doubt about it. At least in name, and certain features. I would think the new American, ....... will have the wheel style neck rod adjustment at the heel, or move the output jack to the side. Other than that I don't know. All the reps I've talked with say the Am. Std. has been gone for a month or two, just not the instant rebate that's in the works now.

Well, I suppose they'll have something to replace them.

I guess this could be compared to when the Am. Series, was replaced by the Am. Std. Some players will always prefer this over that scenario. I'm comfortable with the Am. Std. as is. 8)

FMIC has had the Made in Mexico Fender Standards in place for quite some time. Great value for $600. Squier has the entry level sown up.

American made is going to mean Elites; American Vintage Re-Issues, Some Signatures, and various special runs.

I just checked and Fender's 'Mod Shop' is still up and running. Basically you start out with an American Standard and go from there with various choices/options. I built a lefty Precision for $1,750. vs what is now $1,150 for the remaining Am Std leftys in stock at the various dealers. Also there are no lefty Elite basses at all, and only one Strat.

Fortunately I am good as far as American made left handed Fender Precision and Jazz basses are concerned. :D

I'd love either a Precision or a Jazz (probably a Jazz, since that is what they usually made like this) with the matching painted head stock and the block inlays, like they did in the 60's. I've seen a few here and there, though. Preferably, something in the budget line, like Squier would be cool, too. Unless I come into some huge amount of money, I don't think I'm going to be able to drop over a grand for a bass anytime soon. Of course, that would also depend on demand if anyone else wanted those and they'd make them. Otherwise, it would have to be a custom job for me, or I could find a bass like that around and can afford it.

It almost sounds like Fender is trying to get the middle range series out of the picture. Image

Hardly. The Ensenada made Fenders are the middle range.

Seems to me that the move to drop the American Standard line across the board is to free up production capacity for the very well recieved Elite line and extremely popular AVRI's.

If Fender leaves it's Mod Shop in place, it will take over any American Standard sales and afford FMIC greater profits via direct sales.

And in other sad news: Fender Visionary, Dan Smith, passed away at age 70. He brought the American Standard series into being along with starting up Fender's Custom Shop, and also instituted the artist series of instruments. I sure hope he didn't know FMIC put the kabosh on his American Standards.

This new breed of US-made Fender guitars and basses will be unveiled during the upcoming 2017 Winter NAMM next month.
