I have ordered a set of these for my AS Precision as I, have always liked 45-105 gauge strings on my basses. Has anybody tried these Dunlop flatwounds out & any thoughts on them, they should be here on Thursday. Cheers :D .

You'll have to give us a review, Shawn! As you know there is almost nothing written about these strings at all. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be good as Dunlop has a good reputation.

I thought about trying them, but then I'll feel guilty for not being loyal to my Rotosounds. It's bass string indiscretions. :P Seriously though, they just came out on the market not that long ago, so I imagine it might take time for reviews to roll in. I do like their other products, like the MXR pedals and their plectrums, though.

Firstly I love the gauge I have used 45-105 since I started playing back in 1987, why some makers of flatwound bass strings don't have this gauge baffles me. So that being said what else do I like about them, the tension is good on these defiantly on par with the Fender 9050ML. They have a nice sound to them which I hope only gets better with age, only time will tell on that though. And they hold their tuning really good as well even from new which I do like.
Now what I don't like about them, this is not nasty just my own thoughts yours may be different. They for me don't feel as good as the 9050's on my fingers, the Fenders feel better made & look nicer if that means anything. And the black silk ends fray a little (on my set) the green silk on the Fenders was better.
Conclusion: For the price here in the UK £25 & for the 45-105 gauge & (for me), & Made in U.S.A is worth price. The black silk on mine could be a one off who knows, so don't let this gripe of mine affect you buying a set. And if you like 45-105 strings and want to try flats then you can't fault these strings, I am only judging them on the 9050L I have replaced them with.
I myself wish Fender did a 45-105 set I would have to buy 2 sets of strings just under £50, to have a set that would be 50-105 the 9050L was my first try at flats & I really liked them a lot come on Fender how about a 45-105 set.

Thanks for the review, Shawn! Did you by any chance wipe them down with alcohol and let them relax before installation?

Allow any set of flats two or three months of break in time. Also the act of playing them in will smooth the flat ribbon wrap over that same time period.

Hello linnin firstly how are you doing, and in answer to your first question the answer is no I didn't rub them down. Up till I put a post on here about flatwound strings I had only used Rotosound RS66 round wounds.
So again I'm still learning about tips with flatwound bass strings :) and to add insult to injury, it was only recently I learned the 2 post string wrap tip  . I am going to stay on the 45-105 gauge though it just feels right to me, plus the Labella '54 strings "might" play havoc with my bass neck.

I am OK. Have an appointment with a cardiologist on Wednesday afternoon, and will find out then. I'll let everyone know.

Yes, I use the 'handsbredth' measurement. Put your hand from the E tuning post and you'll see it goes to the D, or two posts. Works best when you run out of posts. I like a full three wraps around the tuning post. It takes experience.

I don't like LaBellas at all. Far too much tension that will warp your neck if you don't measure your neck relief and adjust your truss rod accordingly. I like to measure about every three months or whenever I find that my intonation has started to drift. With every string change with roundwounds. Learning setups is a must along with acquiring the proper tools. Again this requires experience.

For round wound I like the Fender 7250M set the best on my Precision and Jazz basses. The tension is just perfect for my taste.
For flats I have played Fender (.50 to .105), La Bellas and D'Addario Chromes (.45 to .105) and Thomastic Infeld Jazz Flats. The first three brands made my plucking fingers sore after playing them for a while, too much tension.
The TI Jazz Flats feel the best to me for tension but the string sizes are much different than standard. They are guaged .43, .56, .70, .100. I know that sounds weird but the tension level is even from string to string and they play like butter.
I think D'Addario has a set from .40 to .095 that I may try some day.

I have seen some Fender 9050CL strings in a 5 string set, 45-65-85-105-125 but only as a 5 string set  . I preferred the feel of the 9050L set I had on my bass but, have always used 45-105 :) .So may buy this set and throw the B string away.

You ever play a 5-string bass?

Hello Paul yes I've owned 2, 5 string basses over the years & preferred 4 strings. Apart from my minimalist bass approach of, 1 pickup,1 volume, & 1 tone, I also have a stranger thought of 4 fingers 4 strings. Makes sense to me if no-one else
