I was hooked the moment I grabbed the Fender Deluxe PJ and gave it a whirl.
I totally connected with this thing. The Jazz neck is slim and smooth and I really like the maple fretboard. The P bass pickup has that classic deep, warm tone that so many yearn for and the Jazz pickup has the notorious growl, with no hiss, no noise. Combining the two opens up plenty of possibilities and the tone control is very responsive, more so than quite a number of basses I've tried out over the course of the last few months. I tried out three of these PJs in three different stores and each one sounded better than the last.
It delivers everything I want from a bass.

For those who love Fender basses, you already know why, but for those who don't, you have no idea what you're missing. I was never a Fender person, never even tried out a Fender bass until late 2014...now, at least I know what all the fuss is about.
As for gas, sure, I'll look at a lot of Fender basses and admire some of the nice ones that others own, but I don't think I'll ever have to buy another Fender bass again because this one must've been built with me in mind...it's bass perfection!
I've been telling everyone on talkbass.com about this bass for the last three months (even though I only bought mine last week!) and so many members there have bought one that we should start a club. Now, I almost regret it because I would love to own the only one made!

That's awsome! What year is that? Is it Mexican or American made? I'm looking for a new American one for my dad but the body colors offered are very very boring (sunburst, black, white, natural, and blonde). Not even a candy apple red.

They are very flexible - I had a PJ Jazz Special at one time and I used it until the neck could no longer be properly intonated. You make a good point about noise; the Jazz Special was quiet at higher volumes unlike my J-bass.

That is a FSR (Fender Special Run) version of the Deluxe Active P Bass® Special. Mexican. It is my understanding that they were done first for a foreign distributor and then Guitar Center ordered about 300 in Seafoam Green and 200 in black in 2013. It is not a standard production model and as far as I know none remain for sale new. Not sure if any other domestic dealer or dealer consortium ever ordered any like that but it is possible. In addition to the block inlaid maple fretboard they also had a Leo Quan BAII pre-grooved bridge and a white guard instead of the gold guard, vintage bridge and rosewood board on the stock models. The stock Deluxe Active P Bass® Special is a remarkable value and a darn versatile instrument. My sole beef with them has always been the awful stock colors and how nightmarish the stock colors looked with the stock gold guard. I have no problem with the rosewood fretboard on the stock model but the colors just never appealed to me as classic looking. This year they cut all the other stock colors but navy blue metallic, which is the one I found least offensive. So you can get any color you want, so long as it is navy blue metallic.
