Would you say that the Precision is your main go to bass out of all of them?

PaulLF, if that question was left for me, yes. I don't want to step on someone else's response. I play Precision probably 80% of the time now, and perhaps that is low. Two reasons: First, our music has settled into more Blues and less Classic Rock. We find a lot more folks of our age asking for the old Motown songs, too. And with the exception of a song here or there from another genre, we pretty much stay between those two areas, Blues and Classic Rock. I started life on a 66J back in the day, and played primarily jazz until about 5-6 years ago when our direction started changing. Second, and this may be showing my age here, is that the P is lighter for long afternoons. Brother Dave has me using Italia 4" wide straps now, and that helps a lot, but the lessor weight also helps.

My favorite P bass is the 57 with the raised A poles. My go to bass is the AVRI57P, but I also have an original. I play my 52P a lot too. Since finally finding an original 51, the refinished 52 has been played out a lot more. On most gigs I will back my P up with a Jazz for those songs that just need more grind. Even though I have several vintage jazz basses, by favorites are both rather recent, the 50th Anniversary Jazz, which weighs about 10,000 pounds, and the FCSRI60J. Finally, for a one bass gig I usually take a Performer, most recently the one I modified, as I can coax a little P and a little J out of it by flipping pups. Not the same sound, by any means, but okay, and pretty light.

Yeah, I was wondering since I know you have an extensive collection. You ever worry about taking any of the really vintage stuff to gigs?

It is a worry, no doubt, and my best stuff never goes to a gig. If the gig is a plug and play with security - which is pretty common here - I can take an original bass just for personal enjoyment, because it is never out of my hand/sight. But for the most part, my reissues are what I gig. Don't want to lose them either!

I know what you mean. I watch my gear like a hawk whenever I have a gig. I don't stray far away from it.
