About a year ago I ordered CS 55 P-bass through Sweetwater. I went with a lot of options like the ebony fretboard, hand wound pick up, sort for light wood, etc. Needless to say, the bass is simply amazing. About 2 months ago I ordered a set of Labella James Jamerson strings, and when I was putting them on the nut broke.

Called Fender, and took it to the nearest Fender service center (Guitar Center in Syracuse). About a week later, I called to follow up and Guitar Center (very nice guys by the way) told me that Fender was questioning the authenticity of the bass! They said something about the plate not having serial numbers. Needless to say, it took about a month to get it straightened out, and to get the part they needed. Turns out, the original nut was plastic!? When I ordered the bass, the choice of bone nut wasn't an option on the sheet. I just assumed it would come that way... considering what I spent. Now, the new bone nut looks very yellow and shiny. I thought bone nuts were usually an off white with a flat finish... Did I make a mistake by not going with what was on it originally? Perhaps this really isn't that much of an issue, but I like things to be as original as possible.

Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks.

I suppose you might be better off with the bone nut, if it's stronger than the plastic. That's something that the plastic one broke in the first place, especially on what I'm assuming is an expensive bass. I've never happen to me, but I guess there could be a first time for everything.
