I am trying to obtain a period correct case for my 1984 Precision. I have been offered the case in the pictures but am not entirely sure if it is the right case especially when I look at the lid. Can anyone offer any expertise here please. These period correct cases are a bit more difficult to obtain in the UK.

That aluminum frame molded plastic case was used in 1984 on certain USA models as standard issue. Mostly the mass production USA models, but now and then you will run across an earlier 84 with a black G&G Tolex covered wood frame case. They began making Fullerton Reissues in 84 and they had different cases, G&G tweed cases. About everything up to the Elite models got these crappy molded cases. I'd prefer the G&G black Tolex covered wooden frame cases used earlier and also much later in the FMIC era. They are in fact better cases. The plastic on these mass production cases is now 30 plus years old and getting brittle. Seek out a G&G made Fender black Tolex case because you'll be happier with it in the long run, and so will your bass.

Thanks Dave. I'll certainly take your advice. Don't want a case to fall apart on me.

This conversation has been well responded to by Brother Dave. And I agree that a wood framed, tolex covered case was definitely available on 84 USA basses, and that is the way to go.

However, just as an FYI, both my Elite Precision and Elite Precision II also have those "crappy" molded cases with the aluminum frames. And that is such an appropriate description, thank you BD.
