There is a thread over on TB regarding headstock thickness, between the Fender MIA & MIM basses is this true?
I would have thought that both would have shared the same body & neck dimensions.

Never heard about that before. I would have thought they'd be the same, too.

Maybe not. They don't use the same Tuners. They aren't interchangeable.

Just write Fender an email and ask for the official headstock thickness specifications.

Thanks Shawn! Just another good reason to buy an American Standard Fender.

Interesting fact about the headstocks. So if the MIA is slightly thicker, I'm thinking it might carry a bit more resonance as well.

So with that said, how thick are the U.S. headstocks?

Hopefully this picture (though not my bass) shows how thick, the American Standard headstock is and I personally think it does help with resonance. Just in the same way the posiflex rods help with deadspots on the neck.
And your right linnin I'm so glad I was lucky enough to get an American Standard Precision :D :D :D

Actually I was looking for a number since we were supplied those for the Mexican and Asian made versions.

Read the entire thread and you will find that luckman67 has done the research and posted the exact numbers you desire to know but are too lazy to find. :P

Nothing having to do with laziness.
The numbers listed are for Made in Mexico & Made in Asia. I do not see anything listed for Made in U.S.

If I'm missing something, lead me to it. Thanks.

MIA is this instance means 'Made In America' and not made in asia. To a Viet Nam Vet such as myself MIA means Missing In Action.

I hear ya, that's what I always think of first, as well.

OK, so I'll keep that in mind. I have always read threads referring to it as "Asia" for the A part. Thanks for the update.

So...are the asian made headstocks different? I would only assume so, does anyone have reference for this?

Just dug out my '89 Squier Precision MIK (been a while) & I can't find a ruler or tape measure in the house. But checking them side by side and using a piece of paper & marking both headstocks, the Squier headstock was thinner than the Fender headstock.
My guess is that it won't be far off the MIM headstock, one thing I have found out is that I prefer the feel of flatwound strings now :) .
