Hi. I've had a Squier Jaguar for about a year now. I was restringing it today when I noticed a string shaped mark on the 2nd fret. It's on the E string area (I use 48s). Is this normal? Do I need to buy a new neck??

Thanks

A new neck would be a bit overkill, IMHO.
That's not exactly normal in one years time, but fretboards do wear. There may be a soft spot on the fretboard, but it may be the main issue is how hard you press on the strings. You could of course contact the seller, if you're still covered by warranty, and let them check it.
Work on softening your finger pressure - no need to sink the string in the wood.
And play more in other keys/positions

If that crater doesn't cause audible problems, just leave it there. It could be fixed next time your guitar gets a fret job by sanding the fretboard a bit thinner, or with a matching splint of wood.

Maybe it's better & more accurate to say the wood is more carefully selected as you go up the price range
